SUMMARY:2026 Holiday Tour - Hands that Built the Holiday: Celebrating 60 years of the Carroll County Farm Museum
DESCRIPTION:Built in 1852–1853\, the Carroll County Almshouse was more than a shelter — it was a community sustained by hard work\, care\, and craft. Every meal\, every stitch\, and every tool was made by hand. \nThis year\, as the Carroll County Farm Museum celebrates its 60th anniversary\, we honor those who came before us — the residents and caretakers of the almshouse — and the artisans and volunteers who keep their spirit alive today. \nEach room of the almshouse reflects a different trade\, task\, or tradition that shaped life here in the mid-1800s\, paired with the crafts that continue within our museum walls today. Visitors will experience a Christmas built by hand — past\, present\, and future. \nHours: Mon. – Fri. 9AM-4 PM and Sat. & Sun. 12-4 PM\nAdmission: $10 – Family\, $5 – Adults & children 11 yrs and older\, $4- Seniors

DESCRIPTION:Presented by Kyle Dalton. \nThroughout their 160-year occupation of the Union Mills Homestead\, the Shriver family’s six generations always enjoyed a drink. From whiskey to beer to cider to wine\, what they drank and how they drank reflected changing times and culture in America. In this Box Lunch Talk\, executive director Kyle Dalton will discuss the long history of politics\, prohibition\, and temperance at the Union Mills Homestead. \nAs always\, there is no registration for Box Lunch Talks. You bring your lunch\, and we provide the drinks and desserts (thanks to our volunteers and staff). The cost is $3 for HSCC members and $5 for nonmembers. \nQuestions?
