DESCRIPTION:Jesse Johnson owner of Brewery Fire a microbrewery in Taneytown will be the guest speaker at the March 23rd meeting\, 7:00 p.m. at\nGrace United Church of Christ\, Parish Hall\, 49 W Baltimore Street\, Taneytown. His presentation “From Grain to Glass” will provide information on the history and process of brewing. Jesse is a Carroll County native and graduate of McDaniel College and UMBC. Before opening Brewery Fire in 2019 he worked in Health & Human Services for 19 years. Later this year he will be opening a restaurant in Westminster\, Brewery Fire Taphouse. There will be a brief business meeting followed by the guest speaker. Light refreshments will be available after the guest speaker presentation and time to meet with the speaker. \nParking is available in back of the church. Handicap parking is available on the east side of the church.

DESCRIPTION:Helen Strawbridge\, curator of the Strawbridge Shrine will be the guest speaker at the public meeting Monday\, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Grace United Church of Christ\, 49 W Baltimore Street\, Parish Hall\, Taneytown\, Md. Robert Strawbridge brought Methodism to America in the 1760’s and his small farm and home have become a museum and historic site. This first dedicated Methodist structure in America was built along Sam’s Creek\, south of Taneytown. It is located at Strawbridge Lane\, New Windsor\, Md. There will be a brief business meeting followed by the guest speaker. Light refreshments will be available. Parking is available in back of the church and handicap parking is available on Cemetery Road.

DESCRIPTION:Lynn Wheeler interviews Bernie Jones \nIn 1969\, HSCC board member\, Bernie Jones became a charter member and served on the board of the nonprofit Home Ownership Purchase Effort (HOPE)\, to provide home ownership opportunities for low-income Black families.  HOPE purchased houses on Union Street\, rehabbed them\, and sold them at cost. Their groundbreaking work laid the foundation for Civil Rights success in Carroll County. \nAs always\, there is no registration for Box Lunch Talks. SUMMARY:Box Lunch Talk: Westminster’s Citizen Soldier of the American Revolutionary War
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Tim Dioquino \nJoshua Gist (1747-1839) was a Patriot during the American Revolutionary War\, a long-time resident of Westminster and a colonel in the Soldier’s Delight Battalion of Baltimore. He also commanded the 20th Regiment of the Maryland Militia at the time of the Whiskey Rebellion. We will hear about his life in Carroll County and his notable contributions.  Tim Dioquino is the Secretary\, Westminster Chapter\, Maryland Sons of the American Revolution and the America 250 SAR State Committee Chair. \nAs always\, there is no registration for Box Lunch Talks. DESCRIPTION:Monday\, May 19th\, 7 pm at Grace United Church of Christ\, Parish Hall\, 49 W Baltimore Street\, Taneytown\, Md. There will be a brief business meeting followed by the guest speaker\, Elaine Shirley\, Curator of Carroll County Farm Museum. She will talk about horn and the uses for horn before modern plastics. Horn was used everywhere and by everybody. She will also talk about oxen\, what they are and why important. Oxen are everywhere and important part of agriculture. Elaine grew up on a dairy farm in Union Mills. She attended Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture and worked 35+ years for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation\, Elaine led the Rare Breeds program for Coach and Livestock\, caring for and interpreting to visitors about sheep\, cattle and poultry and their place in history.
