David Duree (Sunday Classics)

Alto saxophone has become most familiar as a jazz instrument. However, this recital will explore its classical personality. While alto saxophone has been prominently featured in symphonic settings exploiting its rich, stunning tone and warm personality, this recital will explore the extensive range of solo saxophone music written over the past century.

From the exciting “Fantasia” by Claude Smith to “Tableaux de Province” by Paule Maurice and her memories of sites in southern France. A reflective piece, Des Larmes Encdre’es, by Westminster’s own Garth Baxter (retired from McDaniel College) and a dramatic Concerto by Russian composer Alexander Glazinov. You are invited to enjoy this beautiful music through the lens of the alto saxophone as performed by David Duree and Rachel Andrews, piano accompanist.
