Carroll County Farmer’s Market – Heirloom Tomato Festival

On Saturday, August 22nd the Carroll County Farmer’s Market will feature the Master Gardeners’ 18th Annual Heirloom Tomato Festival. Hours are 8am-1pm.
There will be around 50 different varieties of heirloom tomatoes to taste. To be considered an heirloom tomato, the plants must be open pollinated, which means by the wind or insects, and has existed for at least 50 years. The Master Gardeners will provide information on how to grow heirloom tomatoes and have heirloom seeds for customers to take home and grow next year. In addition to the fresh tomato tasting, available for sampling, as well as recipe cards.
Many varieties of tomatoes will be available to sample and compare: Green Tomatoes, Black Tomatoes, Pink Tomatoes, Red Tomatoes, Yellow Tomatoes, Striped Tomatoes. Lots of food dishes are on hand to taste as well as recipes cards to take home. This is a really great celebration of the many uses of tomatoes. The event is a must see for any tomato lover. Be sure to come early, however, because the samples ran out early last year.
