Maestro Alif Laila is a Bangladeshi-American who will share, through her sitar, the ever-blooming beauty of the rich heritage of South Asian classical music popularly known as Indian Classical music. She will be performing Indian classical raags (ragas) accompanied by tabla (Indian classical double drums). Raags are specific melodic themes that are composed to a rhythmic cycle. Although based on strict rules and structure, the music is totally improvised. The development of the music will take the listener on a journey from meditation to exhilaration in melodies and rhythms. The energy of raags is deeply connected to nature and its manifestations, arousing unique feelings when synced within.
Playing her instrument with a backdrop of her own watercolor paintings, this multimedia concert is an immersive sight and sound experience.
